Ganesha Paintings
Given the widespread devotion of Ganapati, and the importance of this deity in Indian civilization, a wealth of cultural artifacts with images of Ganesha has been created in many media, across India,.
Lord Ganesha is the Hindu god of goodwill, and remover of obstacles. He is usually depicted as a pot-bellied, short, and pudgy man having one tusk, an elephant head, and four arms. The name “Ganesha” stems from the Sanskrit language and apart from being the name of a god, it is also an epithet that means “lord of the hosts” or Ganapati which may mean either “master of the group” or “lord of a group of specialists”.
As a deity, Ganesh has many forms such as Ganapati (god of wisdom), Vinayaka (god of good beginnings), Ganapurusha (a manifestation of Shiva) or in his Trickster form, Vignesha (literally 'son of the remover' or of Indra).
