About Madan Meena
Madan Meena is a dedicated artist and researcher, committed to preserving the identities of rural, nomadic, and tribal communities in Rajasthan. Through his art, he captures the essence of their folk traditions and narratives, ensuring that these cultural heritages remain vibrant and relevant in contemporary society.
Madan draws inspiration from Rajasthan’s oldest folk traditions and the stories of their last living practitioners. His artistic practice is deeply intertwined with his research, allowing him to breathe new life into traditional crafts while ensuring their legacy is preserved for future generations.
Madan’s work has garnered significant recognition both in India and internationally. His doctoral thesis was accompanied by an exhibition featuring wall paintings created by women of the Meena tribe, showcasing their artistic heritage. He has received grants from prestigious institutions, including the University of Cambridge and the Government of India’s Ministry of Culture, as well as the Sahapedia-UNESCO Fellowship. As a curator, he has championed the work of tribal women artisans, promoting their crafts on global platforms.
