Acrylic paint is a medium that was first developed in the 1950s. It was originally intended to be used as a substitute for oil paint which was expensive and took too long to dry, it has now become a popular medium on its own. Acrylic paint is water-based and can be either matte or glossy and can be applied in thin layers or thickly for texture. It can be used on a variety of surfaces, including canvas, paper, wood or metal and can be manipulated to create an appearance of watercolor art (ex:Ashif Hossain), oil paintings or it’s own distinct texture & look (ex: Dinkar Jadhav’s distinct crayon texture in his works). Some famous artists who use began using acrylics first include Jackson Pollock, Andy Warhol, Roy Lichtenstein, and Francis Bacon. Browse through our curated collection of acrylic art across different styles of Acrylic Abstract paintings, Acrylic Figurative paintings, Acrylic Landscape paintings and Acrylic Nature paintings.
