About Smriti Rastogi
Smriti Rastogi's works reside in contradiction, contemplation, and catharsis and revolve around the internal space that one occupies. She believes us all to be enclosed in a space wherever we might be, even in the open air we’re still inside our minds. And surrounded by lines, cubes, perspective, and geometrical forms, it seems impossible not to pay attention to them. Everything around us speaks in a very interesting way if we are to become aware of the same. What amuses her is that we can never unsee anything in our lives. Whatever is seen once can’t be seen again with the same lens. Pauses, uneasiness, unstated, unsaid feelings, and silence attract her attention. With her work, she tries to make people question themselves and their surroundings to help release them from the pre-conditioned mindset. She tends to compare one object with another by trying to find a similarity and contradiction at the same time as everything is connected, more than we realize. Every object, she believes, can depict a feeling even though not containing any life and everything common is uncommon. With light and shadow having a profound impact on her, her quest for spiritual life is ongoing and is reflected in her work. You will see her works in oil, watercolor, mixed media, weaving and embroidery, video art, and stop motion.
