About G. M Sheikh
Born in Surendranagar, Gujrat, G.M Sheikh has worked towards the realization of the manifold scales of time, and progression within the structure and textured fabric of the modern. Sheikh has been a major figure in the world of Indian art for more than four decades. He has participated in major exhibitions all over the world and his works are displayed in private and public collections including the National Gallery of Modern Art in New Delhi, Victoria and Albert Museum in London and the Peabody Essex Museum in Salem, USA. Ghulam has been active not merely as an artist but also as a teacher and writer. Received Padmashri by Government of India, 1983 and Padma Bhushan by Government of India, 2014. Ghulam Mohammed Sheikh lives in Vadodara, India.
As artist, poet, teacher, art historian and curator, Gulammohammed Sheikh has played a major role in the development of contemporary art in India since the early 1960s. He took his MA from the Faculty of Fine Arts, Baroda, and ARCA from the Royal College of Art, London. His work has spanned painting, printmaking, digital media, sculpture and ceramics, and has been featured in major exhibitions in India and around the world. Sheikh taught art history and painting for over three decades at the Faculty of Fine Arts in Baroda, and has acted as curator for significant exhibitions in India as well as in UK and Australia. He has been an invitee for residencies and lectures at major art centres and universities in India, Europe, USA, China and Australia. His work is held in public museums and private collections in many parts of the world. Sheikh lives and works in Baroda.

Gulammohammed Sheikh<, Born 1937 in Surendranagar, Gujarat Studied painting at Baroda and London. Taught art history and painting for nearly three decades at the Faculty of Fine Arts, M.S University of Baroda. Several exhibitions of paintings in India and abroad including a solo exhibition of paintings at the Centre George Pompidou, Paris, 1985. Paintings and other works in several Indian and international collections.
Concurrently involved in the movement of modern Gujarati literature, Collection of poems ‘Athawa’ (1974), book of essays on art ‘Nirkhe te Najar’. Essays on art published in Indian and international journals and lectured on Indian art in Asia, Europe and USA.
Awards include Padmabhushan (2014), Kalidas Samman (2002), Ravi Varma Puraskaram (2009) etc.
