About Dibyendu Ukil
Dibyendu Ukil captures more than just the Ghats of Varanasi, it’s the magnanimity of life that unfolds on his canvas. Growing up by the banks of the Hooghly in Kolkata, he found familiarity in the lanes and ghats of the sacred landscape. He traveled the full length of the holy city absorbing every sight and sound, connecting with every engrossed pilgrim and resident, and engaging in every ritual there was. He absorbed every nook and corner he laid eyes on - the streets, shops, pilgrims, travelers, sadhus, rituals and soulfully portrayed these in his oil and acrylic paintings. The realism of Ukil’s paintings is a metaphor for us quite literally seeing the world through his eyes.
