The Warli tribe living in the mountainous (Sahyadri range) as well as coastal areas along western Maharashtra. These artists are unaffected and untouched by the nearest cosmopolitan cities. One of the best examples of folk style painting, the Warli culture circles around the concept of Mother Nature and worships the Female Goddesses. The simple aesthetic graphical vocabulary of these paintings, the combination of a triangle, a circle and a square, derives its inspiration from their observation of nature and their respect towards the wildlife resources as they provide for life. It is a pictorial language that talks about the everyday scenes of hunting, and farming along with the celebration of various seasons, festivals as well as weddings.
