Country Beats by Sivabalan

Artflute presents ‘Country Beats’, an online showcase with a curated collection of the most recent works by a widely favourite watercolourist, Sivabalan. With this online exhibition, Sivabalan’s strikingly vibrant paintings feature Kumbakonam, a temple capital and his other travel expeditions across India with its undocumented culture.

Artist Siva Balan is all about flirting with opposites. His paintings toy with nativity and rural villages, especially scenes from the southern villages he grew up around. His works capture everyday scenes and movements, without filters and without divulging too many details. 

Over the period, Siva Balan built a liking for the nuances of people, their environment and their emotions. With his signature style of the white background in his watercolour works, he captures the authenticity, realism and heterogenicity of the rural portraits. When you see his paintings of elephant procession, everyday prayers, women carrying pots, festive carnivals, and the animated hustle, you can easily relate to his travelogues. 

Sivabalan adds, “I believe I can transmit my own personal feelings about people and their lifestyles through my paintings and connect the rarity of our culture to generations.”
