What is it about the lanes and ghats of this sacred landscape? A world that is still present and can be heard by those that seek to hear and those that respond to its calling. I never reproduce the sights I see as is. I only reflect on my impressions of that Varanasi that took me home.
Dibyendu Ukil grew up on the banks of Ganga (Hoogli) in Kolkata. And when he travelled to Varanasi, he was pleasantly surprised to find the familiarity of an environment back home. He travelled the length of Varanasi absorbing every sight and sound, connecting with every engrossed pilgrim and resident and engaging in every ritual there was. And his works are his reflections of his impressions of that Varanasi that took him home.
