About Ritesh Khowal
Ritesh Khowal, a graduate of the Faculty of Fine Arts at The Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda, explores the phenomenological, biophysical, political, and metaphysical nature of things through his artistic practice. His academic studies in painting have provided him with a foundation for his experimental approach. His works have been exhibited at prestigious venues such as Art Asia in South Korea, Students Biennale, and Jaipur Art Summit. Ritesh has also participated in residency programs at Space Studio Baroda and Khoj mentorship program. Notable accolades include the Nasreen Mohemmedi Scholarship award and a gold medal in MVA from The Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda.
In his art, Ritesh delves into the Sufi way of thinking, questioning dualities and finding purpose in the space between them. Influenced by philosophy, he critically examines his social and cultural context, channeling his observations into thought-provoking artworks. His inquiry into the self and the world explores themes of time, the human condition, behavior, and survival instincts.
Ritesh's artistic process involves working with collected images, mundane objects, and various materials. He employs diverse tools, formats, sculpture, text, space manipulation, and kinetic bodies to capture the essence of daily life situations. With a keen interest in sonic arts, science, technology, and theoretical physics, he embraces the generation and dissemination of news and information through multiple media. His fascination with physics arises from his innate curiosity and desire to understand and engage with the macro and microscopic aspects of existence.
Currently, Ritesh is working on a series that seeks to navigate the boundaries between the internal and external worlds. Through the negotiation of space, matter, knowledge, belief, politics, and philosophy, his artworks invite viewers to contemplate the intricacies of their own existence and the interplay of forces that shape our lives.
