Artists are known to be huge fans of aestheticism and so am I, however the definition of beauty is uncommon for what seems appealing to me might be bizarre for someone else, and well it’s the difference in our outlooks. Many a times, I used animals as symbols and metaphors to show the different state of mind. Thus the cow became the metaphor of my own self, a common person from the village, who is trying to understand the trends of modernity, with a sense of curiosity, ignorance and bewilderment. Furthermore, as I was born in a rustic land and grew up amongst wildlife and unadulterated nature both of them have become an inseparable part of my being thus, they often sweep onto the canvas unintentionally. Jiban Biswas is an Indian artist born in a small village, known as Birbhum, in West Bengal. He creates realist paintings representing his glorious childhood spent in simplistic rural surrounding contrasting the modern city life. Most of his paintings are created using acrylics on canvas. He is a formally educated artist having passed Bachelors of Visual Arts from Government College of Art Craft, Kolkata. Since the early 2000’s Jiban has been a part of numerous art exhibitions which has aided in garnering the much deserved attention to the works of this highly creative artist. In 2003, he was awarded with the prestigious Ravi Jain Memorial Scholarship.
