A middle-aged shepherd is painted, here in its dark tanned complexion with a traditional turban. He has a nice line of moustache with a bamboo being supported on his left shoulder. As titled-“Dhangar-1”, it must be known that it is one of oldest shepherd community living in the regions of Maharashtra. It looks almost like a portrait painting in the left, while the right side is painted with various goats in different color, profiled and they move in this imaginary space and is being framed by the hanging fabric. The composition is of illustrative and also finds a semblance to Norman Rockwell for its draftsmanship and coloration.
Shaji Nikam’s Paintings are often illustrative and has portraits of rural people and life. He is one of the promising artists, who is also an distinguished member of Bombay Art Society.
